Turn Back The Hands Of Time
Since your face is the most visible
part of your body, doesn't it make sense that you should
put your best face forward? The problem is that aging,
gravity, sun exposure, muscle contractions, poor nutrition
and genetics can all contribute to unwanted changes
over the years.
Sagging of the cheeks causes hollowness
under the eyes and jowls along the jaw line. Loss of
elasticity in the skin leads to loose, wrinkled skin
on the face and neck, and deepening of the lines that
run from the nose to the lips or from the nose all the
way to the chin. Drooping muscles and acculmulations
of fat lead to bulges and depressions in places you
never had them before.
Fortunately, a facelift can remedy
most, if not all of these concerns, and these days,
a face lift can turn back the hands of time, rather
than create the pulled, "windswept" look in
which facelifts of previous years resulted.
Face lifts can be performed on men
and women alike, and is usually not done until the 40s,
50s, and beyond. Some mini facelifts may be appropriate
for younger people in their early 30s or 40s that need
only minor corrections. In most cases, a facelift can
help you look 5 or 10 years younger, if not more.
Generally, a face lift can remove
excess skin, reposition sagging muscles, and eliminate
fatty deposits. It can smooth the jaw and neckline,
lift the cheeks, and reduce nasolabial lines (between
the nose and mouth). Different
techniques are used depending on your needs and
the surgeon's preference.
A facelift does not correct problems
around the eyes or forehead, and some people need a
more extensive neck lift to address issues of aging
and contour of the neck area. While a face lift can
soften nasolabial lines, it will not reduce them completely,
and a facelift does not address lines on the lips or
around the mouth itself. And finally, a facelift can
remove excess skin, but it does not change the quality
of the skin itself.
For these reasons, a facelift is
often times combined with other procedures such as a
browlift, eyelid
surgery, neck lift,
dermal fillers,
chemical peels or laser
resurfacing.
