Recovery Aids

Once you're sure that you want to proceed with cosmetic surgery, you will want to make quite a few preparations to ensure a safe, smooth surgery and recovery period. From this moment until the morning of surgery, you have the opportunity to maximize your experience through careful planning and attention to detail.

Timing
The first matter to consider is the timing of your surgery. You must allow adequate time away from work and social obligations so that you can recover without causing any complications.

The amount of time needed will vary with each procedure and will depend on the type of activities that you plan to return to. Be sure to discuss your estimated recovery time with your plastic surgeon as soon as you're planning your surgery date so that you can allow adequate time for healing and recovery before returning to your normal activities.

Finances
Financial preparations must also be addressed well in advance of surgery. How do you plan to pay for your surgery? Do you need more time to save money?

Are you going to apply for financing? If you're planning to pay with a credit card, do you have an adequate line of credit before reaching your limit?

In addition to paying for surgery, you may also need to figure in lost wages from missing work (if you're not using vacation or sick days).

And, finally, it's always a good idea to have a little extra money in reserve, in case unforeseen complications or necessary revision require more time away from work than you had planned on, or for additional surgical costs.

Social Support
In preparing for surgery, you'll also want to consider whether you're going to divulge your plans to anyone. It is a good idea that at least one person know that you're having surgery so that you can have someone to talk to about your experiences, concerns, and excitement.

Even though you are choosing to have cosmetic surgery, it is still real surgery, and going through any surgery can be challenging both physically as well as emotionally.
